1. Introduction

DateAlt is committed to protecting your personal information when you are using DateAlt services. We want our services to be safe and enjoyable environments for our users. This Privacy Policy relates to our use of any personal information you provide to us through the DateAlt.com website. In order to provide you with the full range of DateAlt services, we are sometimes required to collect information about you.

This privacy policy explains the following:

  • what information DateAlt may collect about you;
  • how we will use information we collect about you;
  • when DateAlt may use your details to contact you;
  • whether DateAlt will disclose your details to anyone else;
  • your choices regarding the personal information you have provided to us;

As set out above, DateAlt is committed to safeguarding your personal information. Whenever you provide such information, we are legally obliged to use your information in line with all laws concerning the protection of personal information, including the Data Protection Act 1998 (these laws are referred to collectively in this Privacy Policy as the "data protection laws").

2. Collection of Information

When you sign up to via the DateAlt website, we may ask for personal information about you. This can consist of information such as your name, e-mail address, postal address, telephone, mobile number, date of birth and photos. By entering your details in the fields requested, you enable DateAlt to provide you with the services. Usage information such as IP addresses and date and times may be collected as you use our services. This information may be used for usage analysis and validation of your account. We promise not to share this information with other parties. We promise not to sell your data to third parties or for marketing purposes.

3. How your information is used

DateAlt will use your personal information for a number of purposes including the following: for "service administration purposes", which means that DateAlt may contact you for reasons related to the service (e.g. to provide you with password reminders or to notify you that a particular service has been suspended for maintenance); to personalise your search results and those users searching for you – private information may be used to order the search results without being displayed to other uses; to use your photos for promotional purposes of the site - e.g. using your images on the homepage of the site.

Where DateAlt proposes using your personal information for any other uses we will ensure that we notify you first. You will also be given the opportunity to withhold or withdraw your consent for your use other than as listed above.

4. Marketing policy

DateAlt won't provide third parties with your information without your consent. We have no plans to contact you for marketing purposes, or promote new services and will contact you if this policy changes. We will keep your information confidential except where disclosure is required or permitted by law (for example to government bodies and law enforcement agencies). Generally, we will only use your information within DateAlt. However, our services are hosted on servers which DateAlt do not own – we endeavour to use hosting suppliers which adhere to our privacy rules. These servers may be located in a location different to your own (for example UK users may have their data hosted on a server located in the US) though we aim to use UK based servers where possible.

5. Offensive behaviour

If you post or send offensive, inappropriate or objectionable content anywhere on or to DateAlt.com, or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on DateAlt.com, DateAlt may use your personal information to stop such behaviour.

6. Users aged under 18?

DateAlt is aimed at users 18 or older. Sorry we can't accommodate younger users due to the prohibitive administrative costs in policing the site. DateAlt does not validate user information and therefore cannot be held responsibile for any inaccuracies in user information.

7. Personal information

We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is necessary for the DateAlt service. In the case that you wish to cancel your registration as a DateAlt.com member, you may suspend the account where your information is retained or you may request full removal via e-mail to the address below and your personal information will be removed in line with the Data Protection Act 1998.

8. Data requests

Under the Data Protection Act 1998 you have the right to request a copy of the personal information DateAlt holds about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. (We charge £10 for information requests and will require you to prove your identity with 2 pieces of approved photographic identification.) We will use reasonable efforts to supply, correct or delete personal information about you on our files.

9. Users outside the UK

www.datealt.com is published in the UK by the DateAlt.com. For international users accessing the site from outside the UK, we aim, where possible, to provide you with the same rights as a UK user under England and Wales law.

10. User Safety

All users should exercise caution when meeting strangers or users with additional personal information such as email addresses and phone numbers - always tell someone your plans and arrange dates in public locations.

11. Changes to Privacy Policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time so you may wish to check it each time you submit personal information to the DateAlt website. The date of the most recent revisions will appear on this page.
